Job Description:
Our client is a well-respected, independent New York nonprofit working to build a more effective and equitable healthcare system. The organization analyzes public policy, brings stakeholders together and supports programs that improve health and healthcare. A growing new area of its work focuses on Medicaid: advancing quality and equity and supporting the screening and delivery of health-related social needs (HRSN) services.
The Opportunity
Our client is hiring a hands-on Senior Data Analyst with deep SQL expertise to build and run the data transformations behind its Medicaid initiatives. This role goes beyond analysis. You will build robust, scalable SQL infrastructure that turns messy claims and HRSN administrative data into clean, analysis-ready datasets and actionable insights on health equity.
Focus: Medicaid claims and health-related social needs (HRSN) data
What You'll Do
-
Advanced SQL development. Design complex SQL queries and stored procedures for high-volume data cleaning, transformation and aggregation. Help build and maintain the team's core codebase, working efficiently across millions of records.
-
Data pipelines and ETL. Build automated workflows that detect and fix data quality issues. Act as a co-owner of data readiness, making sure Medicaid claims and other administrative data are structured for fast analysis.
-
Technical data governance. Run code reviews and apply version control (Git) and documentation standards so results are reproducible.
-
Metric design. Write SQL to calculate quality improvement metrics, equity outcomes and disparities across physical and behavioral health services.
-
Visualization and storytelling. Work with stakeholders to turn backend data into visualizations and narratives that support leadership decisions.
What You'll Bring
-
4+ years writing advanced SQL (complex joins, CTEs, window functions, query optimization) on cloud-based platforms.
-
Proven experience managing and transforming datasets of more than one million records.
-
Deep understanding of healthcare data, such as Medicaid claims, provider networks or clinical data, and its data quality challenges.
-
An engineering mindset: you write clean, modular, reusable code and enjoy solving tricky data transformation problems.
-
Professional experience with Git/GitHub and thorough technical documentation.
-
Ability to explain technical data architecture to non-technical policy experts.
Preferred:
-
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Health Informatics or a related quantitative field. A Master's degree, coding bootcamp or advanced technical certification is a plus.
-
Advanced R programming, including nested and higher-order functions.
-
Tableau or other data visualization and dashboard tools.
-
Experience with HRSN (social determinants of health) or Census data.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary of $95,000–$110,000, depending on experience. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, a 403(b) retirement plan, paid time off and a commuting subsidy.
